You will have opportunities to reflect upon your own or your team’s practice and plan ways forward in each of the following areas :

Curriculum: Reflect upon the revised EYFS framework, its emphasis on reading and implications for practice, including the importance of providing a broad, balanced and carefully sequenced curriculum for reading.

Progression: Explore the key elements of learning to read, and how to help children progress in each of these through developmentally appropriate teaching, high quality texts and rich, playful experiences.

Engagement: Gain ideas for creating a learning environment that makes reading meaningful and memorable, and encourages engagement with texts at every opportunity

Outcomes: Consider how to create early reading opportunities that will challenge children who are achieving at high levels, as well as supporting those children who are less experienced and engaged in this area.

PLEASE NOTE: This course stands in its own right but will also complement the phonics course running on 17th January 2023 ‘Playing with Sounds: Develop your professional understanding of phonics and phonological awareness and how to teach these in ways that work for children’
