Inspiring Young Writers in the Early Years

This course has four modules.

This gamechanger of a course aims to help improve your understanding and practice in the area of early writing, in order to create confident and competent young writers.

By the end of the course, you will have learnt how to make the teaching of writing to young children a joyful, memorable, & successful experience.

A core focus will be on supporting children to develop both compositional and transcriptional skills, in playful, engaging ways which give children the motivation to use these independently.

The course will improve your own subject knowledge in this area, as well as providing you with a wide range of practical ideas to take back into your school or setting.

A key focus throughout will be on helping reluctant writers to engage with the process of mark-making and writing by focusing on purpose, passions and pre-
existing knowledge and shaping their writing skills through these.

Please note: this course will not focus on the teaching of phonics, which will be addressed in a separate course.
