What every Headteacher needs to know about improving quality and outcomes in the early years

Join me on this two hour whistlestop session, where I will give an overview of the
knowledge I’ve gained over 22 years spent successfully supporting Headteachers to lead
practice and improve outcomes in this unique phase.
The emphasis will be on supporting your early years leader and team to raise the level of
challenge and achievement for children, by genuinely teaching them the way they learn
best, rather than making them jump through hoops!
I will share examples of quality in practice to help you gain a clear view of what a
developmentally appropriate curriculum and pedagogy looks like in reality.
By the end of this session you will have:
- A deeper knowledge of curriculum and pedagogy in the early years
- An overview of the most impactful areas to focus on as a leader
- Knowledge of what quality in this phase looks like in practice.
- Understanding of how children can have access to the play based learning they are entitled to, whilst also achieving at the highest levels.
- Resources to take away to support you in monitoring and evaluating the quality of current practice

About Me
33 years ago I started work as a pre-school assistant in Norfolk and went on to teach and lead in London schools. I worked as an early years advisor for Lewisham local authority in London and went on to strategically lead the service. I now work nationally and internationally as a trainer, conference speaker and consultant.
I’ve spent the majority of my career working with leaders and managers in schools and settings, providing them with the support and challenge needed to effectively lead and sustain improvements in play-based learning.
As well as supporting at local authority and leadership level, I spend a significant proportion of my time working directly with practitioners in schools, day-care and pre-schools. This hands-on, current experience is key to ensuring that I retain a deep understanding of the reality, challenges and rewards of working with young children and their families. My work involves sharing what I have learnt about play and the difference it can make to children’s outcomes, and helping schools and settings to ensure that children are enabled to learn in as joyful, inspiring and memorable ways as possible.

This is a subscription-based service which provides excellent value, on demand access to my entire collection of training courses for whole teams.
